Meet the Directors
Medical MBU Director
David R. Schulze is the creator of the Medical MBU. As a youth he was a Boy Scout and became so excited by the merit badge program that he earned every one. He actually became so focused on them that he earned his last one before his Eagle Scout. This put him in the unique position of becoming the first Boy Scout in history to earn every merit badge before earning his Eagle Scout.
Before entering medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, David was a comic artist for The Daily Texan, a commercial actor, a lab manager, a scientist, a screenwriter, an EMT, a saber fencer, and a Boy Scout leader. Currently he is the president of his medical school class and vice president of the medical school student body.
Todd Hendrickson joined Medical MBU as the technology director in 2016. He first became involved in Boy Scouts at 8 years old and continued in the program through much of his youth. He has recently served as both a merit badge counselor and troop committee member with his local scout troop. As a medical student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center he is involved with several student organizations and has a particular interest in patient safety. Todd will be applying for a residency in Family Medicine this academic year. Apart from keeping up with all of the technological demands of Medical MBU, in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family including his wife and son.

She volunteered as a merit badge teacher when Medical MBU first started in 2015. In 2016 Elissa served as the Assistant Director of the program. Elissa is passionate about Medical MBU because it teaches young scouts valuable life skills and has the potential to inspire some to pursue a career in the field of healthcare.
Location Director – Philadelphia
Ruben Nuñez is a Podiatric Medical Student at Temple University. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas and his Master’s degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. As a college student he performed cancer research which he found extremely fulfilling. He was a teacher for Medical Merit Badge University in 2015 where he taught Chemistry and showed scouts their first chemistry lab. Ruben says that he loved seeing the excitement on the scout’s faces as they learned about everyday chemistry and received a difficult merit badge. He was fascinated by how smart the scouts were and the complexity of questions they asked. Ruben was so inspired by this event that he has decided to bring Medical MBU to the great city of Philadelphia to continue spreading a love of science and medicine.
