About Medical MBU

MBU2016_openingThe Medical Merit Badge University was started in 2015 at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The idea for it came from an Eagle Scout, David R. Schulze, who had the goal of getting youth in the community excited and engaged in medicine and science. He wanted youth of all backgrounds to feel empowered when they stepped onto the medical school campus, to feel like one day they too could become doctors, nurses, scientists, pharmacists, or whatever they wanted to be. He wanted the program to be provided for free so that all youth could come and learn, regardless of their socioeconomic background. With a team of dedicated scout leaders, graduate students, faculty, and staff, the event was started.

Since its inception Medical MBU has grown from a local event to a national one, with several other medical schools picking up the banner. Great new leaders have joined on with new locations coming about every year. If the Medical Merit Badge University is not yet available in your area, please contact us so that we can work on providing this opportunity to the youth of your community as well.

“Our goal is to spread this opportunity for education to thousands of youth around the nation. We believe in the value of education, science, medicine, and teamwork. Together we can excite and encourage the next generation, together we can make a difference.”
